Capitalism, if left to its own devices, will eventually eat its young.
Capitalism is a masculine system centered around dominance.
It reeks of petty Darwinism, but in this modern society, when we must care for all citizens, Capitalism falls short of our already too low moral standard. We can no longer send our elders that are too weak to care for themselves out on an iceberg in the middle of the arctic. One, because that’s cruel and essentially murder. Two, icebergs are too scarce to make the effort. Thanks climate change… oh yeah, that reminds me. Capitalism doesn’t consider the environment. It only considers the market and the market doesn’t photosynthesize, the market doesn’t clean water, and the market sure as hell doesn’t tell oil to go fuck itself. Capitalism, survival at all costs, is responsible for toxic dumping and deregulation. Which is part of the problem. By relying capitalism to save us from our grim future, we are leaning into our naïveté. Man has an insatiable desire for dominance, however, Capitalism does not account for the bankruptcy of morality.
We don’t live in a free market, if we did, lobbyists wouldn’t exist so that those with the money can manipulate the market and the government instead of allowing the consumer to do so. Corporations operate by fear and instead of innovating for the future, they bully for the status quo. My fear is that in a future that consists of global humanitarian problems, rising oceans and the need to literally keep coastal cities afloat, Capitalism and our free-market economy is just cognitive dissonance for those in power to disregard the unfortunate. It will demand effort, organization, cooperation and fellowship across ideologies or we can rely on the markets and essentially melt away into the oceans.
