Bribing our future away
The original subject of this post was going to be about the need for sustainability over power. However, with the Tax Bill, more creatively known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, essentially rammed down our throat with zero remorse or sympathy, I decided to switch it up. After all, if bribes are not the reason for this soul sucking, income redistributing, lie, what is?
When I say bribes, I mean lobbyists and campaign contributions. I mean self-preservation. I mean being too afraid to actually help the people their jobs exist for. Maybe there was never a day in this world when money didn’t tyrannize the lowly denizens, but that was the sale’s pitch for America. Now what we have is a sell off of our institutions, multiple income demographics and future generations. Corporations are never mentioned in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution, and yet they choose the people’s representatives.
The GOP did what they were ordered to do. They are no longer public servants they are the minions of the corporations who hide their taxes overseas. Meanwhile the public happily gobbles up their product at an alarming rate. It takes someone with true courage to one, go against his own self interests, but two, go against his colleagues. That’s the point. That’s why Senators and Representatives are supposed to be revered, because they make the tough decisions that us normal folk don’t have the education and understanding to make for ourselves.
I’m sick and tired of people telling me I’m naive, that money is what makes the world go ‘round…. and maybe it does, but consider this: At the expense of what? Our character? Our quality of life? Our power? The United states has only been a super power for the last 70 years, and at this moment, I don’t see us lasting much longer, not without the integrity we said we had. We are far off from the saviors of WWII, in fact, we are much closer to the silver spoon debacles of the CIA- rich, entitled brats playing puppeteer with the American public and soiling our good name.
This Tax Bill definitely feels like the last spasm of the old guard.
Change is coming and the old guys in the glass towers are holding on to dear life. They need to make this sweeping tax change permanent so when their lungs give one final breath, they are at least filled with gold. It will surely turn out to be historic legislation, the kind that pisses off an entire generation in order to re-route our trajectory.
