Love and College Football.
This is about love in college football, not the love for college football.
Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the NFL. There’s something about watching the joie de vie of college football. I am well aware that the college game is equally a business as the NFL, but that is an economic and moral and social and… well shit it’s very important part of the our culture that we want to turn the other way at, however, this is about sex and love.
Ole Miss and Head Coach Hugh Freeze got rocked with a scandal over the summer, throwing the program in turmoil and blasting the integrity of an educational institution and a man who rode in Jesus’s coattails. They got caught. They got caught pimping out women. They got caught doing what many other schools do. They got caught being misogynistic, barbaric, douchebags. Freeze had called an escort service. Probably not for himself, but more for providing women for players or recruits. I’m not a journalist, but this is a widely know practice. Hey star athlete, come here, parties, drinks, girls, it’s all here for the taking. From the top down, “men of character” are proliferating the mindset of classless, Sodom and Gomorrah, winning-at-all-costs mindset to malleable young men. This is pretty standard… or at least more standard than what University of Texas Coach Tom Herman does.
Herman hugs and kisses each player before they enter the field of battle. When asked on ESPN about it being a little weird, his response, “it’s weird that you think it’s weird.” Thank you very much. These coaches are paid an exorbitant amount of money, sometimes in states where public schools are the worst in the country - Alabama raise your hand- and therefore, they should be held to more than winning. Boosters are part of the problem as well, but to stay on subject, I’ll skip that. Herman has a winning track record, except he does it from a place of love. Players risk injury, short and long term, for these coaches and their education. Herman exemplifies what this country needs now more than ever - that love is a better fuel than hate. Come together. Work together. Embrace one another. The kiss on the cheek that he gives is a symbol of hope. One that shows we can turn the corner. I am always leery of putting anyone on a pedestal but not being a hypocrite should be a bigger motivation than failure.
Football needs to stop using women as tools. It’s disgusting and morally depriving. It is a soulless endeavor of lesser generations and it is this current generation that needs to make a change for the future.
