We are innovating ourselves toward a welfare state.

What in the male's psyche prevents him from empathizing with his fellow man?

America has conjured up a fantasy that says that every one of us is equal. Now, not to beat a dead horse but the reason the repeal of the Estate Tax is so successful with the middle class is they've been sold this bag of goods their entire life.

If I were to make $5 million then yeah, of course I would want the control to pass that on to my kids and not the federal government. This coming from a construction worker, or a miner, or someone working their way up the corporate ladder that ultimately knows the cap on their income. They are using the American-literal-Dream against themselves. They know they will never earn $5 million, but IF they did… well statistics are a humbling and sobering weapon against this fantasy but emotional warfare resonates more.

This same man will not only fail to make $5 million but his job is in jeopardy. Robots and the God of Efficiency has labeled him public enemy number one. As China demands more for the natural resources companies here are forced to cut the one variable they can control: labor. The landscape of this country is changing quicker than our education system can adapt, it’s changing faster than kids going from little league to high school- Why do I mention that? Because families, working class, good-natured families have one goal in mind, to take care of their kids. Provide a roof, food and a smile for their kids- I firmly believe that. So in the midst of them getting bogged down in uniform dues by the time they realize that the job market is crushing down on their soul and endangering their livelihood, they’re unprepared, resentful and admittedly, feel lied to.

Working class workers are about to go through what millennials have been going through for the last 5-10 years- that we were sold a bag a goods that doesn’t exist. Millennials were told to work hard, make good grades, graduate from college and your job will be waiting for you… well from 2007-2011 that just wasn’t the case. Our parents lied to us. We became angry and admittedly some became apathetic. We lost the desire to be loyal to a corporation that will eventually treat us like a line item on the balance sheet, also Enron. Fuck them we said. As a generation with access to studying abroad, yeah, we saw what public healthcare does, we saw better education systems and our colleagues across the pond going to school without the throat-stomping debt.

We are innovating ourselves toward a welfare state.

As technological advances slash the manual labor force of this country very soon money will need to be “redistributed” to systems that help working class men and women stay on their feet. Are the tech companies that are eradicating these jobs responsible? If they get taxed more they flee, look at Apple, the most cash rich company in the world. Yes, tech provides a public good, but at what expense?

Middle aged working class people will soon find themselves emotionally on the same side as millennials, but the two will need to empathize with one another in order to move this country forward.
